Why Drive From Colorado Springs for Your CHP Renewal?
For many permit holders, the problem isn’t finding a concealed carry instructor.
It’s finding a renewal class on a day they are actually available.
If you work weekends, work evenings, have a weekday off, work a rotating schedule,
or simply don’t want to give up your Saturday, our recurring weekday schedule gives
you another option.
Students regularly make the drive to Pueblo from
Colorado Springs, Fountain, Security-Widefield, Falcon, Monument,
and other parts of El Paso County.
El Paso County Permit Holders Can Train Outside El Paso County
Your concealed handgun permit may be issued by El Paso County, but that does
not mean your renewal training must be completed in El Paso County.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office states that a training certificate may be issued
by a verified instructor from any Colorado county, provided the instructor
is properly verified and listed by the verifying county sheriff.

Colorado Concealed Carry Renewal Training
Colorado’s current concealed handgun permit law requires most renewal applicants
using the training option to complete an approved refresher course taught by a
verified firearms instructor.
Our CHP Renewal/Refresher Class includes:
- Firearm safety and safe gun handling
- Updates to Colorado firearm and concealed carry laws
- Colorado use-of-force and deadly-force principles
- Conflict avoidance and responsible concealed carry
- Written competency examination
- Live-fire qualification
- Minimum 50-round live-fire exercise
Upon successful completion, you receive the training certificate needed for your
Colorado CHP renewal application.
Don’t Take Your Renewal Class Too Early
For an El Paso County renewal, your training certificate must be dated within
six months before your renewal application.
Colorado renewal applications generally may be submitted beginning
120 days before your permit expires.
If your permit has already expired, Colorado provides a limited renewal grace period.
An expired permit is not valid for carrying concealed simply because you
are still within the renewal grace period.
Colorado CHP Training Law
Colorado’s current training requirements were established by
House Bill 24-1174, which changed both initial and renewal concealed
handgun training requirements beginning July 1, 2025.
You can review the law and legislative information directly from the
