Colorado Concealed Carry Training for Westcliffe Residents
If you live in Westcliffe or elsewhere in Custer County, you can complete your required concealed handgun training with Have Gun Will Train Colorado in Pueblo.
Colorado’s current requirements for an initial concealed handgun permit class include:
- A minimum of 8 hours of in-person instruction
- Safe handgun and ammunition handling
- Safe storage and child safety
- Shooting fundamentals
- Colorado and federal firearm laws
- Colorado laws concerning the use of deadly force and self-defense
- Conflict avoidance and management of violent confrontations
- Safe interaction with law enforcement
- A written competency examination
- A live-fire qualification requiring at least 50 rounds
Our goal isn’t simply to get you through the requirements. We want you to understand how to safely handle your handgun and the responsibilities that come with carrying one in public.
New to Handguns? That’s Not a Problem
You do not need to be an experienced shooter before taking firearms training with us. Many of our students arrive with little or no handgun experience.
We emphasize safe gun handling first and build from there. Students learn how their handgun operates, how to load and unload safely, how to establish a proper grip, how to control the firearm, and how to shoot accurately.

Live-Fire Training and Qualification
A Colorado concealed handgun permit class now requires live-fire training and qualification. This is an important difference from the older Colorado training requirements.
Students must fire at least 50 rounds and demonstrate safe gun handling and shooting competency.
We conduct our live-fire training in Pueblo and work with students throughout the qualification process. The purpose isn’t to see who can shoot the fastest. The goal is safe, controlled and competent handgun handling.

If you already have a Colorado CHP, we also provide concealed carry renewal/refresher training for Westcliffe and Custer County permit holders.
Colorado now requires qualifying renewal applicants to demonstrate handgun competency. The refresher class includes updated firearm-law instruction, a written examination and live-fire qualification.
